Germany Week 38

Hey family,

So this last week was a blast!   Sister Imbach and I are just racking up the adventures.   So last Monday for p-day we went and found a second hand shop… I was trying to find some new skirts because all of mine are starting to fall off.   Yeah, so we found the second hand shop, no skirts, BUT, they did have a tea set.   (I can’t remember if I told you this or not but, Germans, and all other Europeans have tea time every day. we get a lot of herbal tea here.   And oddly I’m starting to like it…..hummmm) but we found this way cool tea set.  It was green with all the pieces cups, plates, and everything, for only 5 Euros, but we could not think of a good reason for buying it, then we realized it would go along perfectly with our DDM (district meeting thought) theme.   Ha-ha we got them.   It went really well our topic was the first lesson or first impressions with someone new and working with members.   So we made it work.   The Elders loved it.  We then found a nice little place to hide them in the church and we will be having tea time every week.

So because our ward or little branch is not very big we do a lot of the cooking for ourselves here.  So the other night Sister Imbach was making us soup and I was setting the table and such…. and I walked over to take a look at the soup and low and behold there was a scoop of peanut butter sitting in it. Ha-ha yes you read that right we had peanut butter soup.   It was really yummy!   We also found a cookbook in our closet when we cleaned and rearranged our house, so we are working on our cooking skills … it should be fun.

Ha-ha also I´m a lot more okay being me around Sister Imbach, the ward was even more surprised with the two of us…. because we are both crazy fun.   But they love us 😉 and to be honest I think maybe that’s what this area needs, is a little crazy.

But the Lord is blessing us left and right, like we aren’t really doing anything (okay we are but,) I feel like the Lord is just placing people in our path and leading us the way we need to go.   It’s crazy how much Erfurt is coming alive!   The Lord is softening the hearts of these people, it’s amazing.   So a couple of weeks ago after finding out that I would be staying in Erfurt and such I felt very strongly that there was a specific thing the Lord wants me to do here.   I felt very strongly that there is a less active woman I need to find.   So I got the ward list and a map, and together Sister Imbach and I mapped out every name on the list.   We are going to meet all of them, and I’m going to find that one sister I can help.

I love you all so much and have a fantastic week!!

Love Sister Kingery (Ashley)

PS. Have a blast at the temple!  I´ll be there in spirit with you all!

Love you

Germany Week 33

Dear Family,
Well this week was great!   I got to go on a split in Heidelberg with Sister Stoddard she is way cool!   But she has only been in the area for about a week and half so we had a really grand time getting lost and re found ha-ha so much fun.   I love jumping on a train and having no idea where we are going to end up. We talked to a lot of people that way… and I learned I need to learn how to read the maps better ha-ha
So we got to watch the Christmas broadcast last night it was so amazing!   But they sound really funny in German because it’s not their real voices.   I tried to watch for Brother Miller … no luck.
Well the snow came this week…. ha-ha and everyone thinks I’m just going to freeze its probably true.
So mom all of the clothes you are seeing me in are ones that I have been getting for free.   Some have come from sisters who have gone home and no longer need them.   And another good group of them came from a lady in Friedrichsdorf that I was working with she loved to give us her old things!   So yeah it’s pretty grand.   I see it kind of like it was in the scriptures when Christ told his Apostles to just go and not worry about what to wear or to eat,  It is so true people just love to take care of us.
Oh so I´m doing this super cool thing with one of the less active sisters here in Erfurt.   So we are trying to help her stop smoking.   And I had this idea that I could giving up something with her so I’m giving up English. Now I have said that before but this time it is different because I know I need to be the example in showing her that it will work.   So what we do is every day we keep track of how long we can go without and then that night I call her and we tell each other what we were able to accomplish that day!   It’s working!!!   I’m so excited to see how it goes we are starting week 2 this week!
Man so we have another zone training meeting this week.   President is really trying to get us ready for the new missionaries that are coming.   The first big group will be the group that comes with Travis.   We will be getting 40 new missionaries that transfer and I believe 12-16 of those will be sisters.    That will be so crazy!!?
Well I think that´s it for this week love you lots and hope you have a fantastic week
Love Ashley (Sister Kingery)

Germany Week 31

Hello Family,

So yeah I´m staying in Erfurt with Sister Mosher we both are staying.   Sorry I forgot to put that part in last week.   So yeah trying to speak just German has not been working …   I think I have been using even more English…   I think Satan is working really hard to make me feel really low because of my German skills, but he will never win so I will just turn a new page and keep trying.   But it’s true I am scared out of my mind to be a trainer or to be the one with the “better“ German skills ha-ha…. other than that one point I think it would be fun to train.

But so this week was Thanksgiving yeah!   So we have this sweet couple in our ward and they are half American so they invited us over to celebrate it with them.   I tried to make Oreo pie, like we have every year but it didn´t work so well, it was yummy but not the same.   But here is the cool part so this week they had a soccer game here and it was against a team that is known for being drunk ( well everyone gets drunk) but this team likes to get into fights and just leave a trail of destruction behind them.   So we were not allowed out on the streets during that time but we got to watch from the window of some of the member’s house.  The largest police squad I have ever seen escorted the fans to the game and back.   It was so cool they had dogs and face shields and lots of cop cars.   Then the best thing was the water cannon tank vans.   So if the crowd got out of control they would just blast them with the water cannons.   I really wanted to see them use one.   But the game was a tie so they didn´t do much because no one lost.   When someone loses that’s when the problems start I guess.

So you can tell Grandma that I got her letter.   And funny story so one of the elders had gone into Frankfurt and picked up the letter and called me.  He was like so Sister Kingery I have a letter for you… and I was like what sweet this is so exciting.   And then he was like it says it’s from a Jordan and I was like oh yeah I´m related to Jordans … and he was like you know my last name is Jordan right…   And I was like yes of course I do Elder Jordan… and he was like we could be related and I was like oh yeah we could.   But it gets better so later at district meeting he gave me the letter and I opened it and what did it have in it a family history chart!!   I was like Elder Jordan we are about to find out that we are related ha-ha but no because it was the Adam line … but any who just thought that was way funny … but tell grandma thanks and I will see what I can do.

So I got my first package the one from Dad ha-ha so funny story with that as well so those hand warmers are amazing!!   Sister Mosher and I had found them about 4 weeks ago and we both got one … and we have been plotting on how we were going to get more and low and behold we got some!   So thanks they are really cool and it’s nice to have more than one.   Now we can have one every day!!   So thanks!!

Okay another cool thing so this week at church in RS the sister giving the lesson challenged us to do something and I want to give each of you the same challenge.  So what you do is give Christ a gift for Christmas and stick it under the tree all wrapped up and then you open it first on Christmas. So all you do is write something down that you want to give Him this year it could be as simple as having better scripture study or if you’re not getting you prayers in to have morning and evening prayers, or write down one thing every day that you are grateful for.   Just do anything that you can do to show Christ that you love Him and then stick it under the tree.  Then do it and open it on Christmas morning.

Well my dear family I must be going, we leave for Friedrichsdorf in just a few short hours for our sisters’ conference!!!   Ha-ha I’m so excited!!!!

I also see going to Friedrichsdorf as the gift that the Lord is giving me for Christmas.  I have or had been pray that I could go back, and even if it is just for one and a half days, it’s an answer to my prayers. Man the lord is so good.

Well I love you all and I´ll talk to you later.

Love you Ashley (Sister Kingery)

Germany Week 30

Oh Family,

Wow this is so cool that Travis is coming to the Alpine German mission!!!!!!   Ah ah we are going to be next door missions.   Wow so cool!!   Man I don’t even know what to say any more.   That tops everything this week!

Well to start out I’m staying in Erfurt for one more transfer, so I´ll be here for Christmas and New Year’s.   But this last week president was telling us that in the next year we will be adding 31 more sisters to our mission and 60-ish elders to our mission.   And he told us that means all of the sisters who are out right now will have to be trainers … most likely we will all be like training at the same time… ish and we will be opening 15 new sister areas in the next year!!   Wow so cool.   Also next week I get to go back to Friedrichsdorf.   We are having a sisters training meeting so it will only be sisters there… so cool and I get to go back to the temple I´m so excited!!

Oh the Lord is so cool I can already see how the work is going to take off and explode with the call for so many young people.   I also think it’s kind of like a last call one last push forward, what more can the Lord do, till he comes again.

Ahhhh so cool

Well I’m sorry but I don’t really have any more to say….. So yeah have a fantastic week and I love you all

Love Ashley (Sister Kingery)

PS  Mom you just enjoy all that warmness…. tell Travis to get a warm coat ha-ha he is going to need it!

Germany Week 29

What’s up Family,

Well what to say about this week…. well to start off we went and met with a family and it was pretty good … till they showed me their rabbits (they have roughly 15ish of them) and I made the mistake of asking why they had so many.   Well you probably guessed it.   Yes one or more are named Christmas dinner…. and the little ones are named next year’s dinner.   Poor little guys never stood a chance.   But they are a really great family.   They live way out in country and do everything by hand … it’s a little bit like” Little House on the Prairie” only German style.   I’m pretty sure they could make a TV show and it would go over really well.

So because Christmas is coming up… they want the missionaries in the area to do a group musical number… well after one of the elders heard my beautiful voice … Sister Mosher and I have been assigned to do singing practice for at least 15 minutes every day.   Ha-ha do they really think that’s going to help? I’ve been working on trying to sing for the last 22 years.   Ha-ha so needless to say it should at least be entertaining ha-ha

So mom I think you will enjoy this so the other day we got home and I was in the bathroom and

I hear Sister Mosher yell “ Well Sister Kingery must every light in the house be on. “ Some things may never change.

The work here is starting to pick up woot!   The members are starting to get excited to share the gospel. And as we all know we cannot do missionary work without the help of the members.   We sure can try but we won’t really get anywhere, because the members are the Key.

Well I’m excited to see what’s in my package but there is a good chance I won’t get it for like another 6 weeks unless I get transferred this week because we live so far away from Frankfurt…. being in Erfurt is like getting the ultimate shun treatment.

And no they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here…. unless they are American… did you know that there is something like 92,000 Americans living in Germany…. pretty crazy yeah.

We have not gotten any more snow yet…. I really hope it stays that way the cold is not too bad … but wet and cold is really bad.

But nothing to crazy this week mostly normal stuff.   Well I hope you all have a great week and know that I love you!!!

Love Ashley, Sister Kingery

Germany Week 28

Hi family,

Well this week was a lot better!   I got a blessing this week from one of the elders.   It was pretty amazing because he said a couple of lines word for word that are in my patriarchal blessing.   It is so amazing that we have the fullness of the gospel in our lives and that we can turn to the priesthood whenever we need it.  So Dad, Brian, Travis, and Patrick thank you so much for being worthy men.   I hope you know and understand what being a priesthood holder really means.  You are a blessing to everyone around you.

Well Halloween was not near as fun as in the states seeing as they don’t celebrate it here… but Sister Mosher’s family sent her some sweet mustaches so we got wear them and feel like we kind of got to dress up.   We also put together a sweet game night this week for our ward.   (Activities have not gone well here in the past) but it was really successful and everyone loved it and are already talking about having another game night and all the games they want to bring and play.   So that was pretty sweet.

So this week at district meeting our zone leader shared this with us and I wanted to share it with you all. So it is from C.S. Lewis but imagine if you will that it’s the Savior talking to you okay. “ give me all.   I don’t want so much of your time, so much of your talents and money, and so much of your work:   I want you, all of you.   I have not come to torment or frustrate the natural man, but to kill it.   No half-measure will do.   I don’t want to only prune a branch here and another there;   Rather, I want the whole tree out. Hand it all over to me, the whole outfit, all of your desires all of your wants and wishes and dreams.   Turn them all over to me.   Give yourself to me, and I will make of you a new in my image.   My will shall become your will.   Give me of yourself and in exchange I will give you of myself.   My heart shall become your heart“

That is exactly what I want to do!   That is what I’m working on doing.   I want to hand it all over to him and never look back.   I want my heart to be changed forever.   Because I know that he is the only true way that we can live with our father in heaven once again.

Well family I love you all and hope that you have a great week.

Love Ashley (sister Kingery)

My Zone!

Germany Week 16

Hello Family,
It sounds like everything went well for the wedding ….. send me some pics please.

Lets see what to tell you about this week well we did some really cool finding activities this week, we got some chalk and drew out the plan of salvation on the ground. we also brought along one of the young women from our ward. She is such a rock star! It was way cool because people would just give us weird looks and ask like what is this …. and so we would walk with them and tell them about each part. It was really good for me because that was the first time I taught or talked with someone in German with out my comp because we where talking to lots of people.

But there was this one guy, it was so funny, he was just determined to tell me that was crazy but I did back down in my and so he just left … he told me that God is made up and just in my head. hahaha that is so false. but I talked with this other group and we might be giving them a temple tour so that would be way cool if that happens.

Another crazy thing we did well it was more Sister Hansen then me because I thought she was crazy as well, but we went in wedding dress shops and tried on dresses and told the people how we are going to get married in a temple and talked to them about the temples and what that means so us and the Sister Hansen also talked about the law of chastity with them so that was pretty fun.
I’m just loving life it´s so grand !!!! But I want to send you some pics this week of the fun things that I have been doing so so this is all for this week but know that I love you and I will talk to you all next week !!

mit liebe immer

Germany Week 5

Dear Family,

This was very interesting week to say the least …. the Lord had a lot for m eto learn … lets just say it was the hardest week I have had so far.    But I made it through the week and I´m happy and ready to start a new one!

Funny story of the wee,k we went running to a park (like we do everymorning) (ps Travis I have lost 15lbs so be ready to pay up buddy) but we went to the park and I found a balance beam and I thought I bet I could a cart wheel on that …. My companion was just like don´t hurt yourself.   So I jumped up on it and did about 3 or 4successful cartwheels on it.   Then I thought I wonder if I can do a hand stand?  So I tried it …. Well that one didn´t go over so well I fell off really hard and my whole left leg is covered in one big bruise.   But it was real epic hahahaha.

(Practicing My Handstands)

Dad thank you so much for your story!!  That was pretty amazing!!!! ps Brian I got dads story 😛 So it has been so hot here.  I have never felt heat like this before.   I think it feels so hot because it is so humid but whatever it’s hot!  And they have no otter pops here so I´m not sure what I´m going to do about that.

So my companion has been working with this 78 year old lady for the last 9ish months and we get to go with her to the temple this weekend!  I´m so excited that will most likely be the high light of my week!!   I´m also going on a split this week I´m going to Ktown for almost 2 days so that should a fun new adventure.

Mom could you tell Emma Packard thanks for the letter she sent me?   I have a letter to send her but I just need to figure out how?  I thought it was really sweet of her to send me one. Well that’s all for this week!!

Thanks for your love and support it´s felt!   I miss you and I miss all of your hugs andl ove you all so much!!

Ashley (Sister Kingery)

Ps could one of you tell Sarah and Katy Hi for me and that I love them too!   And I hope to be sending a letter soon whenI figure out how!!??

I’m in Germany!!!

HEY Family !!!!!!!!!!

Well Im alive……. maybe… ha ha ha no things are great. So the flight over here was way too long. I was asleep for most of it, but when you’re flying to Germany how well can anyone really sleep. I do still have some jet lag but its getting better. So we got off the airplane and we had to show our passports to get through, well Sister Imbach and Elder Gambal had something wrong with theirs so they couldn’t get through. So we had to wait for like an hour for them to figure out what to do, but as soon as customs realized they were from the church they got a security guy and we all had to walk with him to find President. Once we found him we were all good no problems. Then we went to the mission office and we had to fill out a bunch of paper work and some of us had interviews with President.

Next we went to the mall and sang and did street contacting. It was way cool I got to see Sister Sprouse (she is one of my older sisters from the MTC) so that was pretty cool. Then they took us to President’s house and we did more interviews and we ate dinner. Best dinner ever (mostly because the MTC food was so bad) but we had a really good dinner, we got know some of the other Elders and Sisters, and then they took us to a hotel and told us to go to sleep. I was so excited for sleep and a shower !!! But first Sister Imbach and I had to say goodbye because we did’t get to sleep in the same room. We got put with other sisters who would be trainning us. I had the best night of rest ever on my mission so far, I think it was because I had been awake for like 36 hours or something crazy like that.

So the next day we had breakfast and then we had a meeting to find out who was going to be our new comps….. dramatic pause…….. my new comp is Sister Nieman she is really great. She is teaching me a lot about how to be the right kind of missionary.

(Me and Sister Nieman)

So the church has this new thing that is called the 12 week trainning program, so we are to be working on becoming missionaries  and learn how to do everything in those 12 weeks from our new comps- yeah. But I just found out yesterday that I only get mine for 6 weeks now 5 because she is leaving .. her mission is almost over. Sad day. And that I will most likely be taking this area over in 6 now 5 weeks. So crazy !!! I don´t know what Heavenly Father is thinking sometimes.

Oh yeah I´m over Wiesbaden and we live in Maintz. Germany is so international its crazy, there are so many different kinds of people here and they all speak who knows what. My comp can speak English, German and Spanish. So everyone here smokes, its pretty gross if you ask me. I get headaches from it all the time, and where we are its pretty dirty; gum all over the ground and things. The buildings here are so big I’m in more of a city-ish area so not a lot green grass, and if they do have grass its very unkept. We don´t have a car so we have to take the bus, train, and trams or any other kind of public transportation, so that has been a fun new thing to learn about.

Okay so we have two wards here, an American one and a German one that we are working with. so I can undersand about half of the time what is going on. Yesterday we went to church and I got to get up and gave an intro about myself in both wards …. the English one was fine; the German one was okay, they all told me I did really well for only being here for 4 days. I think that was them just being nice to me.

So we have gotten to meet with a few people that has been pretty cool. I´m excited to get to know them all. so we teach in English, German and my comp teaches in Spanish (I never know whats going on when we are talking to Spanish speaking people but thats okay) ever one here is pretty nice. We had a baptism the other night for a 8 year old in the American ward and we went but I guess the Elders were asked to fill the font  and they didn´t know it or somthing so we got there and it was empty so that was a pretty interesting night.

Overall things are going well.Mom I get to skype you for Mother’s day so I need your info for that. Also we need to figure out a time that will work for both of us. I think the best time for us is later in the day so that would be morning\afternoon there. Just let me know, we’ll make this work. Oh yeah I have some rocking blisters.

Well I love all so much and I think thats it for now!

Love Ashley( Sister Kingery)

Last Day at the MTC!!!

So its my birthday !!!!!!! Can i get a woot woot ! Thanks for all the birthday wishes. This is so crazy its my last day at the MTC. I’m way excited to go teach the people of Germany, but I’m very sad to be split up from my zone….. there are 21 of us and only 6 of us are going to Frankfurt so its going to be very hard to say good bye. Tell Erika that I’m going to try and call her too. Sorry this is going to be short I have a lot I need to get done to day. Oh and guess what they give us like 20lbs of books to take with us so I’m pushing the weight limit in all my bags. I’m hoping they get through(and I have already had to throw a lot out.) But thanks for the birthday package!!!!! we are going to party it up tonight 🙂

Love and miss you Ashley (Sister Kingery)
